A multistorey structure at Oremeta Street around the Ojodu-Berger axis of Lagos State collapsed on Saturday morning, trapping an unspecified number of people beneath the debris.
The doomed structure, believed to be under construction, was also home to the renowned EqualRight Restaurant. According to eyewitnesses, the collapse occurred at approximately 8am, catching occupants and passersby by surprise.
An eyewitness who spoke to PUNCH Online on the grounds of anonymity said the cause of the collapse was yet to be ascertained but admitted that the building was a “bomb waiting to explode.”

“Anyone who knows that building should know that it was a bomb waiting to explode. I hardly go there to buy food because I was always scared the building would collapse while I’m there. Right now, we cannot ascertain how many people are trapped under the rubble, but emergency responders have begun rescue operations,” the source said.

According to the source, LASEMA operatives are already on-site, carrying out rescue efforts as they wait for support from other relevant agencies.
While rescuers work tirelessly, concerned members of the community and curious onlookers remain at the scene, awaiting word on the individuals still inside.
