BREAKING: Sowore, Nnamdi Kanu’s Lawyer, 12 Other Protesters Released From Kuje Prison (Video)

Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has been released from Kuje Prison alongside Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, and 11 other protesters. Their release came after they fulfilled the bail conditions granted by a Magistrate Court in Kuje, Abuja.

The group was arrested last week during the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest in Abuja and arraigned before Magistrate Abubakar Umar Sai’id on charges of unlawful assembly and public disturbance. The court granted them bail on Friday, setting ₦500,000 each as the bond and requesting their National Identification Numbers, three-year tax clearance certificates, and passports.

Following days of delay in processing their release, Sowore and the others finally walked out of Kuje Prison on Monday, chanting solidarity songs.

Ejimakor, who reportedly collapsed in detention and received treatment at the prison clinic, was said to have been manhandled by the police during his arrest. His lawyer earlier described his condition as critical.

The case drew public attention after reports emerged that another awaiting trial inmate, Dung Bulus Pam, died in the same facility over the weekend. Sources linked his prolonged detention to the same police prosecutor who handled Sowore’s case.

Their release has sparked renewed calls for justice reform and an end to the alleged misuse of police and judicial powers against peaceful protesters.
