BREAKING: Runs Girls "Sex Workers" Will Start Paying Tax From 2026 – FG

The Federal Government has clarified that all sources of income in Nigeria, including money earned by commercial sex workers, popularly known as “runs girls,” will now be subject to taxation under new fiscal reforms.

Taiwo Oyedele, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, made this known during an engagement session at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, City of David, Lagos.

He explained that Nigeria’s tax laws do not differentiate between legitimate and illegitimate income, but only focus on whether money was earned from providing a service or product.

“If somebody is doing runs girls, that’s a service. They will pay tax on it. The law doesn’t ask whether it is legitimate or not, it just asks: did you earn income? Then you must pay,” Oyedele said in a video that has since gone viral.

He, however, clarified that gifts or money sent to relatives, friends, or strangers without an exchange of service remain tax-free. “If you give upkeep to your cousin or a stranger, that is a gift, not taxable. But you should have paid your own tax before giving it out,” he noted.

The reforms, signed into law by President Bola Tinubu in July, consolidate multiple tax legislations into a single framework. They take effect from January 1, 2026, and will also cover social media influencers and remote workers earning foreign income.

Oyedele described the reforms as the most transformative in Nigeria’s history, urging citizens to focus on the bigger picture of broadening the tax base and improving compliance.
