BREAKING: ‘Repentant Bandits’ Back to Terrorising Kaduna Communities, Farmers Lose 97 Cattle in One Week

Farmers in Kaduna State are crying out for help after individuals described as “repentant bandits” allegedly returned to terrorise rural communities and steal livestock.

The affected farmers, who live in Chikun and Igabi Local Government Areas, issued a Save Our Soul message, urging authorities to probe the resurgence of criminal activities around the Kaduna Airport corridor.

According to a representative who shared details on a community WhatsApp platform, the attacks have been concentrated in Kadi village and settlements along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road. In just one week, the group reportedly carted away 97 cattle.

Those affected include Alhaji Abdullahi Mubari, who lost 47 cows; Bawa Abubakar, who lost 32; Dankawu Malam Bube, who lost 8; and Abdullahi Jafaru, who lost 10.

The farmers said the situation is becoming unbearable, accusing the so-called repentant fighters of continuing their old ways despite being publicly showcased as beneficiaries of the “Kaduna Peace Model.”

“Instead of abandoning crime, they still kidnap, kill, and rustle cattle freely, while nothing is done to stop them,” the representative lamented.

Governor Uba Sani introduced the Kaduna Peace Model in 2023 as a strategy built on grassroots engagement, inclusive governance, and rural development rather than sheer military pressure. Despite these efforts, Kaduna remains one of Nigeria’s most troubled states, grappling with banditry and communal conflicts.

The farmers are now pleading for swift government intervention before the situation worsens.
