President Bola Tinubu is set to depart Abuja on Wednesday for a two-nation trip to South Africa and Angola, where he will attend the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg and the AU–EU Summit in Luanda.
According to a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu was invited by South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphosa and other global leaders to join discussions themed “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability,” covering climate action, economic development, critical minerals, AI, and global security. He is also expected to hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.

After the G20 summit scheduled for November 22–23, the President will head to Angola for the AU–EU meeting from November 24–25, where leaders, innovators, and civil society groups will deliberate on digital economy growth, infrastructure, manufacturing, and inclusive development. He will be accompanied by several ministers and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency.
Tinubu’s latest foreign trip comes amid rising insecurity at home. Twenty-five schoolgirls abducted in Kebbi remain in captivity, while communities in Kwara, Kaduna, and Zamfara continue to suffer repeated bandit attacks.
Earlier this week, heavily armed bandits stormed Government Girls’ Secondary School, Maga, killing a staff member and abducting students despite a gun battle with police. Additional security units have since been deployed to the area.
The President is expected to return to Nigeria after the conclusion of both summits.
