Security operatives in Niger State have launched a major search-and-rescue operation following the abduction of students from St. Mary’s Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area.

Armed attackers reportedly stormed the school around 2:00 a.m. on Friday, overpowering the premises and whisking away an unspecified number of students and staff. Earlier reports indicated that the terrorists moved swiftly through the hostels before escaping into the surrounding forests.

In a statement issued by the Niger State Police Command, spokesman SP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident, describing it as a “disturbing attack carried out in the early hours of the morning.” He noted that the exact number of abducted students was still being compiled.

Abiodun said police tactical teams, soldiers, and other security units had immediately mobilised to the area and were combing nearby forests in an effort to track the kidnappers and rescue the victims.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, assured residents that the Command is fully committed to ensuring the safe return of the students. He urged the public to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that may support the rescue mission.
