The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested 12 members of a notorious armed robbery gang responsible for the gruesome killing of Arise News staff, Somtochukwu Christella Maduagwu, and a security guard, Barnabas Danlami, during a violent attack on an apartment in Katampe District, Abuja.
The breakthrough followed a directive from the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, to track down the perpetrators of the September 29, 2025 robbery at Unique Apartment, Gishiri Village, which claimed two lives.
According to an intelligence report released by the EIB STRATOC and its digital forensics unit, Giga Forensics, operatives of the Scorpion Squad led by ACP Victor Godfrey acted on actionable digital and reconstructive intelligence to apprehend the suspects.

The arrested suspects include:
1. Shamsudeen Hassan (Malumfashi, Katsina State)
2. Hassan Isah (Zaria, Kaduna State)
3. Abubakar Alkamu a.k.a. Abba (Musawa, Katsina State)
4. Sani Sirajo a.k.a. Dan Borume (Malumfashi, Katsina State)
5. Mashkur Jamilu a.k.a. Abba (Igabi, Kaduna State)
6. Suleiman Badamasi a.k.a. Dan-Sule (Malumfashi, Katsina State)
7. Abdul Salam Saleh a.k.a. Na-Durudu (Katsina State)
8. Zaharadeen Muhammad a.k.a. Gwaska (Chikun, Kaduna State)
9. Musa Adamu a.k.a. Musa Hassan (Malumfashi, Katsina State)
10. Sumayya Mohammed a.k.a. Baby (Sammaka, Kaduna State)
11. Isah Abdulrahman a.k.a. Abbati (Zaria, Kaduna State)
12. Musa Umar a.k.a. Small (Maiduguri, Borno State).
Police sources revealed that four suspects (Shamsudeen Hassan, Abubakar Alkamu, Sani Sirajo, and another accomplice) were first tracked down through stolen mobile phones recovered from the victims’ apartment.
During interrogation, Shamsudeen confessed to shooting the security guard, Barnabas Danlami, after he tried to stop them from entering the compound. Sirajo, on his part, admitted attempting to stop Ms. Maduagwu from falling off the building during the chaos but said he was “overwhelmed by her weight.” Shamsudeen also confessed to driving the victims’ white Honda CR-V away after the robbery.
Each of the four initially arrested suspects reportedly received ₦200,000 as their share from the proceeds of the operation.
Recovered items from the gang include:
- One fabricated AK-47 rifle
- 36 rounds of 9mm live ammunition
- One locally made pistol
- One pump-action gun
- Two live cartridges
- Four mobile phones belonging to the victims
- Two sharp knives
- One cutlass
- Nine torchlights used during the operation
Further arrests were made on October 8, 2025, when operatives, acting on new intelligence, intercepted other members of the gang (including Musa Umar and Hassan Isah) while they were allegedly en route to another planned robbery in Maitama.
All the suspects have reportedly confessed to the crimes. The Police Command confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining fleeing members of the gang.
Authorities have withheld images of the suspects to avoid compromising the ongoing manhunt.
