The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Saturday announced the expulsion of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, and former National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu during its national convention in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Their removal came after Chief Olabode George, a former National Vice Chairman (South), raised a motion on the convention floor calling for their immediate sanction. Samaila Buga, the PDP chairman in Bauchi State, quickly backed the motion, prompting loud reactions from delegates.

The development unfolded as the party’s elective convention struggled with delays. Although the event was slated to begin at 10am, only 17 states and the FCT had completed accreditation by early afternoon, forcing organizers to shift the main activities to 4pm to allow late-arriving delegates to participate.
Inside the Lekan Salami Stadium, party members filled the stands in colorful PDP attire, singing and waving placards for their preferred contenders. The mood outside, however, was less cheerful.

Major roads around the stadium (such as Mokola, Eleyele, Dugbe, Sango, Ojoo, and Agodi Gate) were temporarily closed, causing long traffic jams and forcing commuters to seek alternative routes. Many commercial drivers voiced their frustration over the disruptions.
Security personnel, including police and civil defence officers, stationed themselves around the venue, screening vehicles and monitoring movement to maintain order. Voting booths were already set up at the centre of the field, awaiting the full list of accredited delegates to kick off the day’s main proceedings.
