BREAKING: Nigerian Soldiers Continue to Intensify Efforts, as They Repel Boko Haram/ISWAP Attack in Borno, Kills Six Terrorists

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have successfully repelled a coordinated assault by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on their base in Mallam Fatori, Borno State.

According to Lt-Col Sani Uba, Media Information Officer for OPHK, the terrorists launched the attack around 4:30 a.m., targeting the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kangar with mortar fire and drone strikes.

Soldier at the base had reinforcement from Sector 3 troops. The soldiers fought back fiercely, with air support from Nigerien fighter jets, forcing the insurgents to retreat through the Tumbun waterways, leaving behind their dead and wounded.

Six terrorists were confirmed killed, while troops recovered five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, over 250 rounds of ammunition, rocket-propelled grenades, drone bombs, hand grenades, and an Android phone from the scene. Additional airstrikes by Nigerian and Nigerien forces reportedly neutralized more fleeing militants.

A few soldiers and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) sustained minor injuries and were evacuated for treatment. The Defence Headquarters commended the troops’ bravery, reaffirming its commitment to restoring peace and stability in the North-East.

Meanwhile, the trial of two top Ansaru leaders, Mahmud Usman (aka Abu Bara’a) and Abubakar Abba (aka Isah Adam), continues on November 19, 2025, at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The duo, arrested in July during a DSS-led counterterrorism operation, are accused of coordinating terror cells and funding jihadist activities through kidnapping and illegal mining.
