BREAKING: Nationwide Blackout as National Grid Collapses Again

Nigeria was thrown into darkness on Wednesday after the national electricity grid suffered yet another collapse, crippling power supply across the country.

Data from system operators showed generation plunging from 2,917.83 megawatts to just 1.5 megawatts between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m., effectively shutting down supply to most regions. The X handle, Nigeria National Grid, confirmed the collapse, stating that “system restoration is in progress.”

As of press time, distribution companies had yet to explain the cause of the failure or provide a timeline for restoration. The blackout has sparked agitations online, with citizens lamenting the government’s inability to stabilize the power sector.

This incident adds to a growing list of grid failures in recent years, despite repeated assurances of heavy investment in electricity infrastructure. Experts point to aging facilities, poor maintenance, and weak transmission lines as persistent obstacles.

The blackouts continue to interrupt businesses, especially small and medium enterprises, forcing many to rely on costly generators and solar alternatives.

Energy analysts are urging authorities to tackle the sector’s deep-rooted problems, warning that continuous collapse of the grid would undermine investor confidence and further damage Nigeria’s fragile economy.
