BREAKING: Kidnappers Kill Young Anambra Businessman 'Fish Magnet' After Collecting Ransom

Tragedy struck in Anambra State as a well-known businessman, Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly called “Fish Magnet,” was killed by his abductors even after his family reportedly paid a ransom for his release.

The shocking development has sparked outrage and fear among residents, with many expressing deep concern over the growing insecurity in the state.

Sources close to the family said Onyekere was kidnapped at an undisclosed location. Despite negotiations and the eventual payment of ransom, his abductors still went ahead to murder him.

The news broke on Monday through social media posts, including one by a user identified as @ChucksE on X (formerly Twitter), who wrote, “They collected ransom and still killed Fish Magnet. What a country.”

Speaking on the latest incident, Anambra State Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that investigations are ongoing.

“We are aware of the incident and are working hard to uncover the details and bring those responsible to justice,” he said.

The killing of Onyekere has once again drawn attention to the alarming rise in abduction and cult-related violence in the state. Areas like Oko, Ogboji, and parts of Onitsha have become flashpoints for such crimes, leaving residents in constant fear.

Security experts and local leaders have renewed calls for the state government to act swiftly. Suggestions include boosting intelligence networks, deploying more security personnel, and embracing community policing as a way to stem the rising tide of violence.

Social media personality VeryDarkMan could not hold back his tears when he heard the news. Fish Magnet, who was a loyal fan of his, had promised to gift him fish as an appreciation for the good things he has been doing for the country and also for helping out at the Onitsha market incident with NAFDAC; however, an unfortunate incident did not allow it to come to pass.

This isn’t the first time victims of kidnapping have been murdered by their abductors even after collecting ransom.

In June, a female banker, Ifeoma Onyekwelu, was kidnapped in Onitsha. Her family paid ₦25 million, yet she was later found dead along the Nnobi-Alor road with signs of torture

Likewise, a respected community figure, High Chief Gbafankiti na Nimo, was murdered despite a ₦15 million ransom reportedly paid by his relatives.

A lawmaker in the state was also murdered by his captors after paying a ransom of N100 million.

At the time of this report, no arrests had been made in connection with Onyekere’s death. His body has since been recovered by his family, and arrangements for burial are underway.
