The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that a fresh round of nationwide voter registration will begin on Monday, August 18, 2025, in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the exercise will focus on enrolling eligible Nigerians who are yet to register, particularly students, first-time voters, and people living in rural areas.
The registration will be held in all 774 local government areas across the country. INEC will also deploy mobile units to schools, marketplaces, and hard-to-reach communities to ensure broader participation.

Prof. Yakubu assured the public that new and improved technology will be used to make the process faster, more accurate, and secure. This includes measures to reduce duplicate or invalid registrations.
“No eligible Nigerian should be left out of the electoral process,” he said, urging unregistered citizens to take advantage of the opportunity.
He further explained that special arrangements have been made for persons living with disabilities and other vulnerable groups to ensure full inclusion.
INEC spokesperson Festus Okoye added that the Commission is working with civil society organizations and community leaders to raise awareness and encourage participation at the grassroots level.
Nigerians are encouraged to cooperate with registration officers and report any irregularities or misconduct during the exercise.
