The Federal Government has initiated a defamation case against suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan over comments she allegedly made during a televised interview.
Filed on May 16 at the Federal High Court Abuja, the case — marked CR/297/25 — lists Akpoti-Uduaghan as the sole defendant. The charges accuse her of making damaging and reputation-harming statements in violation of Section 391 of the Penal Code, which is punishable under Section 392.
The alleged defamatory remarks were reportedly made during her April 3 appearance on Politics Today, a programme aired on Channels Television.

Senate President God’swill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello are listed among the key witnesses. Both men are also named as nominal complainants in the suit. Other witnesses include Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, Sandra Duru, and police investigators Maya Iliya and Abdulhafiz Garba.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had been suspended from the Senate on March 6 following a seating dispute with Akpabio. She denounced the suspension as politically motivated and unfair.
After her suspension, the senator made several public statements and filed petitions alleging misconduct by Akpabio. In response, Akpabio petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, accusing Akpoti-Uduaghan of criminal defamation and incitement.
Former Governor Bello also lodged a petition, firmly denying her claims that he conspired, under Akpabio’s direction, to engineer her recall and assassination.
