Elon Musk has become the first person in history to reach a net worth of $500 billion.
Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires tracker confirmed the milestone on Wednesday afternoon. Musk is now more than $150 billion richer than Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison, who sits in second place.
Tesla shares rose nearly 4% on Wednesday, adding about $9.3 billion to Musk’s fortune. The company’s stock has nearly doubled since April, after Musk announced he would step back from government duties to focus more on Tesla. His 12% stake in the company is now worth around $191 billion.

Musk’s wealth also comes from his other companies. SpaceX is valued at $400 billion, giving him an estimated $168 billion stake. His AI and social media venture, xAI Holdings—which merged with X (formerly Twitter)—is valued at $113 billion, with Musk holding about $60 billion in shares.
This milestone marks another step in Musk’s rapid rise. He was worth less than $25 billion in 2020. By late 2021, he had already crossed the $300 billion mark. He became the first to hit $400 billion in December 2024, and now he has reached $500 billion.
Analysts say Musk could become the world’s first trillionaire within the next decade if Tesla and his other ventures keep growing.
