The Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested Bishop Samuel Onyeagoziri, General Overseer of Champions of the Truth Church, over allegations of sexual exploitation involving a 22-year-old congregant, Euphemia Ede.
Police spokesperson, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the arrest on Friday, stating that the cleric was picked up on Wednesday and remains in custody. He said investigations are ongoing and the suspect will be arraigned in court.
Ede, in a viral podcast interview, accused the bishop of luring her into years of sexual abuse under the guise of “divine healing” for her sickle cell condition. She alleged that while in SS3, he told her that sleeping with him for seven days would change her genotype from SS to AA. She claimed he broke her virginity and continued abusing her for years without any improvement in her health.

The victim also alleged that the bishop, who is married, threatened her with a rifle and forced her to pose for nude photographs, some of which recently went viral. While the cleric denied the images, calling them AI-generated, Ede insisted they were real.
She further claimed that attempts to escape his residence between 2021 and 2025 were met with threats to her life. The abuse reportedly intensified this year when he allegedly sought to marry her.
The revelations have sparked outrage in Ebonyi and beyond, with rights groups and residents demanding justice and calling on police not to yield to religious or political pressure.
