BREAKING: Brigadier-General Said to Have Been Kidnapped by Boko Haram During a Deadly Ambush in Borno Returns to Base On Foot

A Nigerian Army Brigadier-General escaped death in dramatic fashion after troops of the 25 Task Force Brigade were ambushed by ISWAP/Boko Haram fighters in Damboa, Borno State, according to multiple reports.

The attack, which occurred along the Azir–Multe and Sabon Gari axis, left two soldiers and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) dead.

According to field sources, the mixed convoy of soldiers and CJTF operatives was returning from a clearance mission around the fringes of Sambisa Forest when insurgents opened heavy fire. The attackers, believed to have lain in wait along the narrow route, forced a fierce gun duel that scattered the convoy.

Amid the chaos, the Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General M. Uba, went missing for several hours, raising fears that he may have been captured. Some CJTF members said he responded to WhatsApp messages but could not be located immediately. He later resurfaced at the base on foot, having trekked back after narrowly escaping the ambush.

The Nigerian Army confirmed the incident but dismissed reports of the General’s abduction as fake. In a statement, Acting Director of Army Public Relations Lt. Col. Appolonia Anele said the troops fought back with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to flee.

The Army mourned the fallen personnel and praised the troops’ resilience. Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen. Waidi Shaibu commended their courage, noting that the episode reflects the harsh and dangerous conditions under which soldiers operate in the Northeast.
