Boko Haram insurgents have launched a deadly coordinated attack on Nigerian troops in Ngamdu, Borno State, using armed drones, Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPGs), and command-detonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), according to a report by SaharaReporters.
The assault, which targeted troops of Operation HADIN KAI under the 29 Task Force Brigade, occurred earlier this week, according to a statement released on Saturday by the military spokesman, Lt. Col. Sani Uba.
The terrorists reportedly attempted to overrun military positions and destroy critical assets through a combination of firepower and unconventional warfare tactics. Despite the ferocity of the attack, troops successfully repelled the assault in what the Army described as a “fierce defensive operation.”

However, four soldiers were confirmed killed in action, while five others sustained injuries. Several military vehicles, including Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles and Gun Trucks, were also damaged.
In a bid to delay reinforcements, the insurgents planted multiple IEDs along the Ngamdu–Damaturu Main Supply Route (MSR), temporarily halting traffic. Army engineers later cleared the explosives and reopened the route.
Lt. Col. Uba assured that the area is now secure, adding that troops have launched aggressive patrols to prevent further attacks. Intelligence reports suggest Boko Haram suffered heavy losses, with at least 15 fighters buried near Bula Wura after the confrontation.
The use of armed drones marks a worrying escalation in Boko Haram’s tactics, highlighting the group’s increasing technological capability.
