American rapper Nicki Minaj is set to address a United Nations event in New York on Tuesday, November 18, where she will speak on what has been described as the ongoing persecution and alleged genocide against Christians in Nigeria.
Minaj will appear alongside Michael Waltz, the United States ambassador to the UN, and Alex Bruesewitz, adviser to U.S. President Donald Trump and organiser of the event. The discussion is expected to spotlight rising attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria and highlight measures the Trump administration claims to be taking to curb the crisis.

In a statement ahead of the event, Waltz praised Minaj for using her global influence to draw attention to the issue. He described her as “not only one of the greatest female artists of all time, but a principled voice unwilling to stay silent in the face of injustice.” He added that he looked forward to joining her at the UN to outline efforts being pursued to protect Christians in Nigeria.
Christian bodies such as the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) have repeatedly stated that Christian communities are facing targeted killings, which they regard as genocide.
Responding to Waltz’s remarks, Minaj expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to speak on such a significant platform. “I am so grateful to be entrusted with an opportunity of this magnitude,” she said. “The Barbz and I will never stand down in the face of injustice. Our influence is God-given, and it must serve a greater purpose.”
