The Nigerian House of Representatives has reportedly ordered the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to block all websites that publish pornographic contents in Nigeria with immediate effect.

The motion, which was sponsored by the Katsina lawmaker Dalhatu Tafoki, reached a resolution in the lower chambers on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, with all members unanimously agreeing.

While defending his motion, Mr. Tafoki cited studies from psychologists and sociologists about the dangers of pornography for those who enjoy watching them.

“Renowned psychologists and sociologists worldwide have issued strong warnings about the psychological, sociological, and mental consequences of consuming pornographic content,” he said.

He said that pornography has a negative impact on societal values among young people and that it promotes adultery, prostitution, and addiction, explaining that there is a need to restrict access to pornographic contents in Nigeria so as to protect our cultural and moral values.

Tafoki also leveraged his points on the fact that several countries in Asia, including China, and some countries in Africa and the Middle East have already taken strict measures concerning explicit contents.

The House of Representatives orders are to take effect immediately, as they urge NCC to make sure all internet service providers comply and punish those that refuse to comply.
