Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has alleged that some serving politicians in the National Assembly are behind the persistent violent attacks on communities across the state.
Speaking during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television, Alia described the situation as “extremely unacceptable,” claiming that the politicians are not only instigating violence but also supporting the perpetrators.
“These are top politicians—currently active in Abuja and in the National Assembly—who are sponsoring, harboring, and equipping these attackers. They are feeding them in the bushes and providing them with tools and gadgets,” Alia stated.

Although he did not reveal any names, the governor said an interim report from a judicial panel he established has indicted several prominent individuals. He added that the full report will be submitted to him next week, after which decisive action will be taken.
“If they don’t value the lives of the people and are only pursuing personal power, then I, as governor, must defend the lives and interests of the common people,” Alia said.
This revelation comes amid renewed violence in Benue. On Friday, several people were reportedly killed and others injured following a suspected armed herdsmen attack along the Makurdi–Naka road. The road has been under the grip of armed militias for weeks, despite multiple security assurances from the federal government.
Governor Alia emphasized that identifying both internal and external threats through the judicial panel is part of his administration’s strategy to restore lasting peace in the state.
