Tragedy struck in Bauchi State on Saturday, June 14, 2025, as Superintendent of Police (SP) Mustapha Garba lost his life in a fatal car crash while on his way to his wedding ceremony.
SP Garba, a serving officer with the Bauchi State Police Command, was traveling from Gumau to Magaman-Gumau in Toro Local Government Area when the accident occurred. He was accompanied by three friends in a Mercedes-Benz vehicle.
According to reports, the vehicle lost control at a location known as Bargan Tsamiya, veered off its lane, and collided head-on with an Opel Vectra coming from the opposite direction.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer for Bauchi State Command, CSP Mohammed Ahmed Wakil, said the news of the crash was immediately reported to the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Sani-Omolori.

“SP Mustapha Garba was on his way to his wedding when this unfortunate incident happened. He was with three friends in a Mercedes-Benz when their vehicle lost control and collided with an oncoming car,” Wakil said.
“On receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police directed the Divisional Police Officer of Toro Division to mobilize officers and evacuate the victims to Toro General Hospital. Sadly, a medical doctor confirmed SP Garba and two of his friends dead on arrival.”
Their bodies have been handed over to their families and buried according to Islamic rites.
The Commissioner of Police has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended his condolences to the families of the deceased, praying for strength to bear the loss.
The tragic crash has left the police command and local community in deep mourning, turning what was meant to be a day of celebration into one of great sorrow.
