Suspected bandits have reportedly kidnapped 25 young men during a cult initiation ceremony in a forest near Jos, Plateau State.

The incident happened late Saturday night, July 26, along the Jos-Bauchi Road in the Jos North Local Government Area. Eyewitnesses said the group had gathered deep in the bush for an initiation rite when armed men stormed the location and seized them at gunpoint.

The abductors, believed to be bandits, whisked the victims away to an unknown destination. Their identities and the motive behind the attack are still unclear.

So far, security agencies in Plateau have not issued an official statement, but residents say they’ve noticed increased patrol activity since the incident.

“This place has always had cult activity, but nobody expected bandits to strike there. It’s scary,” said a local resident who asked to remain anonymous.

The abduction has raised fresh concerns over the growing insecurity and surge in cult-related activities in parts of Northern Nigeria. Families of the abducted individuals are now anxiously awaiting news.

Authorities have advised the public to remain calm and report any suspicious movement or information that could assist in locating the victims. Investigations are ongoing.
