Any Politician with Money can buy INEC, Army and Police to Win Elections, says Former Governor of Imo, Achike Udenwa

Mr. Achike Udenwa, the former Governor of Imo State, claims election victories in Nigeria can be bought with the right amount of money.

Udenwa, while being interviewed on Edmund Obilo’s State Affairs show podcast, noted that even the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), army, and police can be bought by politicians who have the money in order to win elections.

According to the ex-governor, Nigerians no longer seek for a politician’s antecedents, what he can do, or what kind of character he possesses, thereby encouraging the politicians to buy their way through elections.

“Unfortunately, our society has grown to such a level where if you say vote for me, I am no longer asking what you can do? What are your antecedents? What type of character do you have? We don’t ask such questions again. And, of course, even if I don’t vote for you, you can buy your way through if you have the right amount of money,” the Vanguard quotes him saying.

Udenwa, who governed Imo State from 1999 to 2007, claims everybody can be bought: the INEC, army, police, and voters, as long as the politician in question has enough money to spend.

“You can buy everybody,” he said, advising that “vote buying” should be put to an end if we are ever going to have leaders with good intentions.
