Nwangwu, who is widely known in the southeastern state for his wealth and influence, was arrested in 2024 following a high-profile investigation. Security agencies claim that intelligence reports linked him to ritualistic practices and financial dealings with criminal networks.

The Anambra State Government, through its legal team, has emphasized that the charges are based on credible evidence and that Nwangwu will be given a fair trial under the law.
“The government is committed to ensuring that the rule of law prevails. No one is above the law, and any individual found guilty of activities that endanger public safety will face justice,” an official statement from the Anambra State Attorney General’s office read.
If convicted, Nwangwu could face up to 20 years in prison. The case is expected to draw widespread attention due to his notoriety and the controversial nature of the allegations.
