The Anambra State government has sealed a shrine in Umuofor village, Okija, in Ihiala Local Government Area, allegedly used by Ekene Igboegbueze for fraudulent rituals promising wealth through supernatural means.

The move follows multiple complaints from local residents and an online video where Igboegbueze openly admitted to engaging in practices such as “Oke Ite”, “Yahoo Plus”, and “Awele”—all of which violate the Anambra State Homeland Security Laws.

This is also coming a few days after a renowned native doctor, Chukwudozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Tiwara Okuku, was arrested and taken into custody for alleged money ritual practices, as reported by Igbo Tv.

Led by the Special Adviser on Community Security, Ken Emeakayi, a task force known as “Operation Udo Ga-Achi” executed the closure.

Additionally, all properties acquired by Igboegbueze using proceeds from these illegal activities have been seized. Items found in the shrine will undergo forensic analysis to determine further legal actions against him.

Meanwhile, Chinenye Ihenko, Director of Operations for Agunechemba Security Outfit, condemned the activities of fraudulent native doctors and self-styled pastors, stressing that such individuals fuel a dangerous “get-rich-quick” mentality among the youth.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo clarified that the state government is not targeting all native doctors but is cracking down on those involved in criminal activities such as aiding kidnappers, armed robbers, and money rituals.

He reaffirmed that genuine traditional healers who respect Igbo cultural values have nothing to fear, but those engaged in harmful esoteric practices will be dealt with decisively.
