Air Peace has brought back 78 trafficked Nigerian women who were taken to Côte d’Ivoire under false employment pretenses at no expense.

The airline employed a Boeing 737 from Lagos to Abidjan on Saturday to bring the victims back home for free.

Chairman Allen Onyema emphasized the mission’s aim of restoring dignity to the women, adding that they had suffered severe dehumanization.

He further added that Air Peace will cover all their medical expenses at Duchess Hospital in Lagos so that they can receive the type of care and attention they are worthy of.

The joy tears homecoming had the women smiling and relieved, and Onyema noted that there was a huge need to restore them to human beings and things of worth again. He further praised social media activist VeryDarkMan, who brought national discussion to the cause.

VeryDarkMan, who was present at the airport to welcome the girls, spoke to newsmen, saying that the Nigerian borders are porous; that is why the trafficking is easily carried out without anyone noticing. He called for more effective border regulations by the immigration agency.

Upon their return to Lagos, NAPTIP Director-General Binta Bello commended the cooperation and restated the agency’s dedication to fighting human trafficking.

She confirmed the arrest of the trafficked women’s abductors. The Nigerian Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire, by Chargée d’Affaires Paul Obi and community activist Michael Onwuchelu, facilitated documentation and logistics.

Obi appreciated the importance of the mission in retrieving the freedom and dignity of the women and hailed Onyema for his kindness and patriotism.
