Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold has warmed hearts online after gifting ₦250,000 each to several graduates who earned First Class and Distinction degrees.
It all began when the artist tweeted, “If you graduated with First Class, post your transcripts.” Though he didn’t explain why, many users quickly responded with proof of their academic excellence.

A few hours later, Adekunle Gold followed up with: “Check your DM, you might have been picked.” Soon after, recipients of the ₦250,000 could not hold their joy, as they began sharing screenshots of credit alerts.

One of the recipients The Boda Giggle, who shared a screenshot of his new account balance after receiving ₦250,000 Adekunle Gold overwhelmed with gratitude wrote, “I had N0 in my account. Goddddd!!!”

So far, at least 11 people have confirmed receiving the money, including one Distinction graduate who almost missed out because her DMs were locked.

But the giveaway didn’t end without a little controversy. In a cheeky moment, Adekunle Gold threw subtle shade at his alma mater, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), telling its graduates not to bother submitting their First Class results, a dig likely tied to past tensions with the institution.

Nonetheless, fans have praised the singer for his generosity and for spotlighting academic excellence in a way that feels both rewarding and unexpected.
