A viral video has surfaced online showing Ghanaians shutting down a Nigerian-owned shop despite protests from the owner, highlighting renewed tensions between the two West African neighbors.

The footage, shared by user @AsakyGRN on X, captures enforcement officers forcing a Nigerian trader to close his shop in Ghana. The man, who insisted he held a Ghanaian passport and was legally resident, pleaded that he and his family were citizens.

But one officer dismissed his claim, saying, “Enforcement is not about those legally or illegally. Are you not a Nigerian? The enforcement is against Nigerians doing business in Ghana.” Another member of the team added, “Have you seen any Ghanaian in Nigeria owning a shop like you?”

The incident quickly drew outrage across social media. Some users condemned the move as discriminatory, recalling that Nigerians once gave Ghanaians a home and business opportunities. @THE_CRAFT3R referenced history, writing, “Once upon a time it was Nigerians chasing Ghanaians out of Naija, hence the slogan ‘Ghana Must Go.’ Today it is Ghanaians chasing Nigerians.”

Others stressed that Nigerian businesses have long contributed to Ghana’s economy. One user recounted how Ghanaians once thrived as rice importers, cobblers, and generator dealers in Nigeria without harassment. “No one saw them as outsiders,” he wrote.

Many commentators urged both nations to avoid hostility, stressing their deep social and cultural ties. “Ghanaians and Nigerians are far too connected by love, work, and history to let division win,” another X user said.
