The National Assembly has told suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, that she cannot resume her duties despite the expiration of her six-month suspension.
In a letter dated September 4, 2025, and signed by the Acting Clerk to the National Assembly, Dr. Yahaya Danzaria, the Parliament explained that her suspension remains in force because the matter is still pending before the Court of Appeal.
Akpoti-Uduaghan had written to the Senate notifying them of her plan to return on September 4, citing the end of her suspension, which began on March 6. However, the Clerk clarified that no administrative action would be taken until the judiciary concludes its review.

“The matter remains sub judice, and until the judicial process is concluded and the Senate formally reviews the suspension in light of the court’s pronouncement, no action can be taken to facilitate your resumption,” the letter stated.
The senator was suspended earlier in the year following a confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary. She initially challenged the suspension at the Federal High Court, but after the court ruled in favor of the Senate, she appealed the case.
Her return to the Red Chamber now depends on the decision of the Court of Appeal.
