BREAKING: Police Raid IPOB/ESN Camp in Anambra, Recover Explosives, SUV & Others

The Anambra State Police Command says it has dismantled a camp belonging to the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Aguluezechukwu, Aguata Local Government Area, according to a report by The PUNCH.

According to police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the raid was carried out in the early hours of September 2 by a joint security team comprising police operatives, troops from the 302 Artillery Regiment, the Department of State Services (DSS), and members of the Anambra State Vigilante.

The operation, which lasted over five hours, led to the dislodgement of the militia group, the destruction of their camp, and the recovery of several Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). A white Lexus 470 SUV was also seized.

Ikenga said some suspects escaped with gunshot wounds but assured residents that the area had been stabilised and was now calm. “Monitoring is ongoing to ensure the safety and security of the community while efforts continue to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” he stated.

The development comes just days after a similar raid in Nempi, Oru West Local Government Area of Imo State, where police arrested 29 suspects linked to IPOB/ESN. Weapons, ammunition, charms, and another SUV were recovered during that operation.

The Anambra Police Command reiterated its commitment to fighting criminal activities and restoring peace across the state.
