A food vendor, identified as Ammaye, has been killed by a mob in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State after being accused of making blasphemous remarks against Prophet Muhammad, says a report by Parallel Facts.
The incident happened in Kasuwan Garba community after a disagreement reportedly began in the nearby village of Igwama. According to witnesses, Ammaye, who was also a Muslim, exchanged words with a young man said to be her nephew.
During the conversation, he jokingly proposed marriage to her, claiming it was in line with Sunnah. Ammaye’s response was considered offensive by some residents, sparking outrage.

The case was taken before the District Head of Kasuwan Garba, where she was questioned. Reports claim she repeated the same remarks, prompting the District Head to hand her over to security operatives for further investigation.
However, angry youths demanded immediate punishment. Despite attempts by security personnel to protect her, the mob overpowered them and stoned her to death.
Confirming the incident, Mariga Local Government Chairman Abbas Adamu said normalcy has been restored in the area.
