The General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi, has announced a review of some of the church’s long-standing marriage policies, clarifying that they are administrative guidelines and not biblical commands.
Speaking at the 2025 Global Family and Marriage Conference, Kumuyi addressed concerns raised by a female member who noted that many single ladies enter marriage without truly knowing their prospective husbands since they were not previously allowed to visit them at home.
He explained that the six-month courtship policy, which discouraged such visits, was originally designed to help members avoid sin, not because it was a biblical directive.

However, after considering women’s perspectives and the lifelong impact of marriage, he said it had become necessary to allow a more balanced approach.
“You’re marrying not just a man but his family, his relatives, and his environment,” Kumuyi said. “When you visit, you get to see how he relates with people around him. Some men may hold back information, smiling and saying everything is fine, when in reality they are hiding things. Our sister is right—so why not? If not, follow them home.”
The respected cleric emphasized that the change does not give license for misconduct. He expressed confidence in members’ maturity, noting that he trusts they would not misuse the new policy by visiting at odd hours or engaging in inappropriate behavior.
