A coalition meeting of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna was on Saturday disrupted by hoodlums who stormed the venue and attacked participants.
The meeting, held at the Conference Hall of NUT Endwell in Magadishu Layout, was reportedly convened under the leadership of former governor Nasir El-Rufai.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers injured several people and vandalized vehicles, including the car of the former governor. Parts of the conference hall were also damaged.

According to sources, the thugs arrived in large numbers and descended on participants, even as armed policemen deployed to the scene earlier looked on. Some victims sustained severe injuries and were rushed for medical treatment.

It was also gathered that the state government had earlier pressured some event centers to cancel bookings made by the coalition before the meeting finally held at NUT Endwell.
“This shows the violent politics that may unfold between El-Rufai and his former ally, Governor Uba Sani,” one source said, alleging that the thugs were mobilized by certain government officials to frustrate the gathering.
The incident has sparked outrage among party supporters and residents, who condemned the use of violence to silence opposition voices. Community leaders also warned that attacks of this nature not only undermine democracy but also fuel political tension in the state.
Pictures and videos obtained from the scene showed injured members and the chaotic moment the hoodlums invaded the hall.
