The Anambra State Police Command says its operatives, working with the Anambra Vigilante Group (AVG), have dislodged a terrorist hideout in Awa, Orumba North Local Government Area, reports SaharaReporters.
Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga said in a statement on Friday that the operation, which began in the early hours of Thursday, August 21, lasted over 15 hours. Four armed suspects were killed during the gun battle, while a kidnapped victim was rescued.
According to Ikenga, the victim’s family had already paid N20 million in ransom, but the abductors refused to release him. He was freed after security operatives stormed the camp.

Recovered items from the scene include two pump-action guns, a fabricated AK-47 rifle, a K2 assault rifle, three locally made IEDs, a radio transmission box, gas cylinders, cable wires, food supplies, mobile phones, and sleeping materials.
Vehicles, including a black Lexus RX 350 SUV and four Toyota Camry cars with various registration numbers, were also seized. Personal effects such as an ID card and driver’s license were found at the site.
Ikenga said the raid was carried out by the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, supported by vigilante units, acting on credible intelligence. He added that Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu has assured residents that the crackdown on criminal gangs will continue.
In recent months, security forces have raided several hideouts in the state, killing armed suspects, freeing abducted victims, and recovering weapons. Authorities believe these camps are behind kidnappings, attacks on security operatives, and the violent enforcement of illegal sit-at-home orders.
