The legal firm representing the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has issued a formal demand for retraction of defamatory remarks and compensation.
The letter, signed by Chief Alex Ejesieme, SAN, of Madiba Chambers, addresses allegations made by lawyer Adeyanju Deji that Obi is the leader of the mob, a religious bigot, a fraud, and scum who encouraged protests and anarchy.
In the letter dated August 20, 2025, Obi’s lawyers describe recent statements labeling him a political “anarchist” and accusing him of inciting unrest as “false, malicious, and reckless.”

The note emphasizes that Obi has consistently upheld democratic values and has no record of endorsing violence.
It further characterizes the remarks as an intentional effort to damage Obi’s integrity and standing among thoughtful members of society.
Obi is seeking an unqualified public apology, to be published on the offending party’s X (formerly Twitter) account and in multiple national newspapers.
Additionally, he is demanding ₦5 billion in damages for reputational harm suffered. The letter warns that, unless the demands are met promptly, legal action will follow without further notice.

In response, Lawyer Deji took to his social media handle and said he is ready to meet Peter Obi in court, calling the former Anambra governor a religious bigot and fraud parading himself as a messiah.
