The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old salesgirl, Sarah Ogbonna, for allegedly stealing goods worth over N29 million from her employer’s phone shop in Minna.
Police spokesperson Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement on Monday, said Sarah had been diverting phones and cash from the shop where she worked since 2023.
Investigations revealed that she used part of the stolen proceeds to rent and furnish an apartment in Sauka-Kauta, Minna, for her boyfriend, identified as Samuel Abiodun Bello, who is now on the run. She also reportedly transferred money to him and made regular contributions to an online financial group.

Her confession led to the arrest of three accomplices on August 9; her sister, Mercy Ogbonna, 23; a former colleague, Ruth Omor Emmanuel, 23; and 32-year-old Nurudeen Musa.
Police said Sarah made several transfers to Mercy, who helped sort out family expenses, including rent and food. Ruth was said to have participated in some of the thefts before leaving the shop, while Musa allegedly received stolen phones from Sarah, selling them cheaply and returning incomplete payments.
Recovered items from Sarah’s home included two generators, a smart TV, a freezer, wigs valued at N500,000 each, a gas cylinder, footwear, bags, clothing, and other household items.
Abiodun confirmed that all suspects remain in custody as investigations continue.
