The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Major General Muhammadu Sani Sami (Rtd.), popularly known as Gomo II, has died at the age of 81.

He passed away in a London hospital after a brief illness.

The late monarch, a retired military officer, is survived by four wives and seven children.

Confirming the news, Kebbi State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Garba Umar-Dutsinmari, said the government received the Emir’s death with great sorrow and extended condolences to his family, the Zuru Emirate Council, and the people of Kebbi State.

He prayed for Allah’s mercy on the departed ruler.

Born in 1943, Muhammadu Sani Sami joined the Nigerian Army and rose to the rank of Major General before retiring to take up traditional leadership. He became Emir of Zuru in the mid-1990s and ruled for almost 30 years.

Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah, in his condolence message, described the Emir as a noble and respected leader who served his people with dignity. He said the late ruler left behind a legacy of honor, adding that his passing is a loss not only to Zuru Emirate but also to Kebbi State and Nigeria as a whole.
