Security operatives in Kaduna State have arrested a man with over ₦25 million in cash allegedly meant for vote buying during the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency bye-election.

Police spokesman DSP Mansir Hassan identified the suspect as Shehu Patangi. He was picked up in the early hours of Saturday at a hotel along Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis, where he was reportedly coordinating the distribution of money to influence voters.

According to Hassan, a total of ₦25.96 million was recovered from the suspect. During interrogation, Patangi was said to have admitted to the offense and pleaded for leniency.

The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, commended the swift collaboration between security agencies that led to the arrest. He warned that anyone caught attempting to undermine the credibility of the elections, no matter their status, would face the full weight of the law.

Muhammad assured residents of adequate security throughout the exercise and urged them to come out and vote peacefully without fear of intimidation.

It was not stated which party the man belonged to. Though some media channels have alleged he is a PDP agent, some say he is an APC agent, and another one said he is an ADC agent.
