Identity of the Dangote Driver that Crushed Phyna's Sister's Legs Revealed; He Has No Driver's License

Reality TV star and winner of the 2022 Big Brother Naija (BBN), Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has cried out for help after her younger sister, Otabor Ruth, lost a leg in a horrific accident involving a Dangote truck.

The heartbreaking incident happened near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, just days after Ruth graduated from the institution. According to Phyna, Ruth was on a motorcycle when a Dangote truck rammed into her. One of her legs has been amputated, and doctors have warned that the second leg may also need to be removed.

In a distressed voice note sent to activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), Phyna said she had spent heavily on medical bills and begged for intervention. “VeryDarkMan o, Dangote don kee my sister o. Dangote trailer jam my sister wey just graduate days ago. Dem don cut one of her leg comot and they say dey go cut the second one. I don send money tire,” she lamented.

VDM, who shared the case publicly on August 13, 2025, accused the police of attempting to suppress the matter. He alleged that the truck’s license plate was removed after the crash and called on Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, to take full responsibility. “Sir, with all due respect, when will your drivers stop sacrificing Nigerians? The carelessness of your drivers is causing untimely deaths and bringing pain to families. We need justice for Ruth,” he wrote.

Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw also weighed in via her X handle, claiming the driver did not stop after hitting Ruth but was chased down by a lecturer who witnessed the accident. She added that the truck is currently in police custody in Auchi but that officers have denied Ruth’s family and fellow students access.

“This @DangoteGroup truck in police custody hit a young girl who just graduated six days ago. One leg has been amputated already, and the other may soon be. Whoever owns the truck should own up,” Henshaw wrote, tagging the Nigeria Police Force to ensure justice is served.

As Ruth battles for her life in a Jattu hospital, public pressure is mounting on Dangote Group to respond and take responsibility for the actions of its driver.
