The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has strongly condemned the treatment of Ms. Comfort Emmanson in the now-viral Ibom Air incident of August 10, 2025, calling it “reckless, unlawful, and a grave affront to the rule of law and human dignity.”
Emmanson was forcibly removed from an Ibom Air flight, stripped of her clothing in public, and subjected to humiliation that was filmed and circulated online. The NBA described the act as degrading, a violation of her right to dignity and privacy, and a breach of professional and ethical standards in the aviation industry.
While Ibom Air has presented its version of events, other video evidence reportedly shows airline staff preventing Emmanson from disembarking, escalating tensions on board.

The NBA criticized the subsequent lifetime flight ban imposed by both Ibom Air and the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON), noting it was done without affording her a fair hearing.
The association further denounced the photographing and dissemination of indecent images of Emmanson, calling it a “gross invasion of privacy” and a criminal act. Even if the incident were to be reported, the NBA stressed that the footage should have been blurred or edited to protect her identity.
The NBA has demanded that Ibom Air immediately lift the lifetime ban, issue a public apology, and cooperate fully with an impartial investigation. It has also called on the Minister for Aviation, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and security agencies to investigate and hold those responsible accountable.
Pledging pro bono legal support to Emmanson, the NBA emphasized that the fundamental rights of Nigerians must not be trampled by public authorities, corporations, or individuals. “Respect for human dignity and the rule of law must never be compromised,” the statement read.
