2027: "I will End Corruption in One Month if I'm Elected President" — Amaechi Vows

Former Minister of Transportation and ex-Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, has promised to stamp out corruption in Nigeria within his first month in office if elected president in 2027, or resign.

Speaking during an X Space discussion tagged Weekend Politics, Amaechi said he would also push for a constitutional amendment to replace “indigeneship” with “citizenship” as a core national identity principle.

“If I become president, I will change the constitution from indigeneship to citizenship. If I do not end corruption in Nigeria within one month, I will tender my resignation,” he declared.

Amaechi alleged that some influential Nigerians make regular trips to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to siphon public funds, saying such practices have worsened insecurity and economic hardship. He criticized the ruling class for failing to channel resources into improving the country.

The former APC chieftain also took aim at the electoral system, describing Professor Mahmood Yakubu as “the worst INEC chairman in Nigeria’s history.” He challenged the current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to walk the streets of Port Harcourt to gauge public opinion on who truly has the people’s support.

On economic policy, Amaechi said he would not reinstate the fuel subsidy if elected. Instead, he pledged to redirect savings from subsidy removal directly to ordinary Nigerians rather than the elite.
