American music icon Sean “Diddy” Combs is hoping for a presidential pardon from Donald Trump ahead of his sentencing in October, his legal team has revealed.
Combs, 55, was convicted last month by a New York jury on two counts related to the transportation of individuals for prostitution.
Each count carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. He was, however, cleared of more serious charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking.
One of Combs’ attorneys, Nicole Westmoreland, confirmed in an interview with CNN on Tuesday that efforts have been made to reach out to Trump.

“It’s my understanding that we’ve reached out and had conversations in reference to a pardon,” she said.
But Trump appears hesitant. Speaking in a separate interview with Newsmax, the former president said he had no strong ties with the music mogul, despite past cordial interactions.
“I was very friendly with him. I got along with him great and he seemed like a nice guy,” Trump said. “I didn’t know him well, but when I ran for office, he was very hostile.”
When asked if that meant he wouldn’t support a pardon for Combs, Trump replied, “I would say so, yeah.”
Combs’ sentencing is scheduled for October 3. The verdict and subsequent request for clemency come after months of legal drama surrounding the artist, once considered one of the most powerful figures in the entertainment industry.
