A Nigerian soldier has sparked mixed reactions online after expressing his frustration over what he described as the government’s misplaced priorities, following the ₦150 million cash gift and housing reward given to each Super Falcons player upon coming back home with the WAFCON trophy.
In a viral video, the visibly emotional soldier questioned how footballers could receive such massive rewards for a few weeks of playing, while soldiers who dedicate 35 years of their lives to national service often retire with little to show.
“Even if I serve this country for 35 years without being injured or killed, plus my pension, I still won’t earn what they gave these players in just one month,” he said.

He acknowledged the Super Falcons’ achievement at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) but insisted that soldiers, who face death daily to protect the country, deserve equal—if not more—recognition and compensation.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently announced a ₦150 million gift and a three-bedroom flat for each Super Falcons player following their WAFCON triumph.
While the gesture has been widely praised by sports enthusiasts, it has also stirred criticism from some who believe it is a misuse of public funds with a clear lack of priorities.
