Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has said that any politician promising to serve only one term in office should be sent for psychiatric evaluation.
Soludo made the statement during a political rally in Anambra South, where he received endorsement for a second term. While addressing supporters, the former Central Bank Governor said the idea of voluntarily limiting oneself to a single term has no place in Nigeria’s political reality.
“Anyone telling you they’ll serve just one term needs to have their head examined,” Soludo stated bluntly. “Show me where it has ever happened in this country.”

He emphasized that the Nigerian Constitution clearly allows elected officials, including governors and presidents, to serve up to two terms. According to him, no rational politician would willingly give up the right to seek re-election if the people still want them.
Soludo’s remarks were seen by many as a direct jab at political opponents or critics suggesting one-term leadership as a strategy for winning public trust.
His comment has since sparked reactions online.
