Rumors have it that the governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, allegedly suspended 25 of his cabinet members (commissioners and appointees) for missing his child’s birthday party.
Some sources have debunked the rumor as false, saying that the governor, instead, suspended 25 commissioners & appointees for missing key state events such as the flag-off of Agricultural Input Distribution at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki, and not a personal event like a child’s birthday party.
However, the governor’s Special Assistant on Media, Leo Ekene Oketa, claims otherwise. According to Oketa, both pieces of information are wrong.

He said the governor’s official engagement on that Friday, July 25, was a burial event at Abofia community in Ebonyi State, but he was unable to attend due to flight delays with Air Peace.
So, the governor asked the deputy governor to go and represent him, while he ordered his Senior Special Adviser on State Affairs to send notifications across to the cabinet members informing them of the importance of attending the event. They were also informed that attendance will be taken.
Yet, the officials did not attend the burial event, which made the governor suspend them instantly.
