JUST IN: You will be Denied Visa if you're Travelling to the U.S. to go Give Birth so that your Child will have U.S. Citizenship — US Warns Nigerians

The United States has warned Nigerians against travelling to America for the sole purpose of giving birth so their children can automatically gain U.S. citizenship.

In a statement shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the U.S. Mission in Nigeria made it clear that such travel intentions violate visa rules and will lead to visa denial.

“Using your visa to travel for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States so that your child will have U.S. citizenship is not permitted,” the embassy stated. “Consular officers will deny your visa application if they have reason to believe this is your intent.”

This warning comes as part of efforts to clamp down on “birth tourism,” a growing trend where foreign nationals travel to the U.S. specifically to have babies.

The embassy reminded Nigerians that U.S. visas are issued based on the purpose of travel stated in the application. Anyone caught misrepresenting their intentions may not only be denied a visa but could also face other consequences.

In a related development, the U.S. recently adjusted its visa policy for Nigerians, limiting most visa types to single entries with a maximum validity of three months. The move is aimed at tightening immigration controls and ensuring that applicants strictly follow the terms of their visa.

While the U.S. says these rules apply globally, the message is clear: those hoping to bend immigration rules through childbirth are being closely watched.
