Six students of the Nigerian Law School have been kidnapped by suspected gunmen in Benue State while travelling from Onitsha, Anambra State, to Yola, Adamawa State.
The abduction reportedly happened late Saturday, July 26, as the students were returning to school after their externship break. The Yola campus was scheduled to resume academic activities on Monday, July 28.
A student of the law school, Damilare Adenola, confirmed the incident on Sunday. He said the victims were seized along the route between Wukari in Taraba State and parts of Benue State, a stretch often linked to criminal attacks on travellers.
The abducted students have been identified as Rev. Ernest Okafor, Ogbuka Fabian, Nwamma Philip, Okechukwu Obadiegwu, Obalem Emmanuel, and Obiorah David.

A student leader in Yola, who asked not to be named, said the school community has informed security agencies and is anxiously waiting for updates. “We’ve contacted the Adamawa Police Command. We are hoping for good news soon,” he said.
Spokesperson for the Adamawa Police Command, Yahaya Suleiman, confirmed knowledge of the case but clarified that it occurred outside their jurisdiction.
“The kidnapping didn’t happen in Adamawa. I advise you to contact the Benue Police Command for further details,” he said.
Suleiman added that both states’ police commands are working together to ensure the safe release of the students.
“We’re collaborating with our counterparts in Benue and other security agencies to guarantee the safety of travellers entering Adamawa,” he stated.
A fresh update according to the PUNCH on the abduction of the six Nigerian Law School students has revealed that the kidnappers are demanding a N20 million ransom for each victim.
Sources at the Yola campus of the Nigerian Law School told PUNCH Metro on Sunday evening that the suspected gunmen had established contact with relatives and colleagues of the victims to negotiate ransom payment.
One of the students, Chisom, recounted how he initially dismissed the news until she tried to reach some of the victims.
He said, “We heard the news this morning (Sunday) that some of our classmates were abducted. I didn’t want to believe it, so I started making a few calls because I know all of them. I tried to call three of the victims, but their numbers were switched off.
“When I tried one of them again, he picked up the call. There was noise in the background, but when he finally spoke, he screamed that he had been kidnapped and told a colleague to send N20m for his release.”
