Southampton won 3-2 over Stoke City last night in the EFL Cup Round of 16 stage, shooting them to the Quarter final stage of the competition.

The match was an intense one with three yellow cards by three players from the match – two from the Southampton side and a single one from Stoke City, and also a penalty goal by Southampton, in the 35th minute as a result of a foul play.

Talking of the match highlights, Southampton opened the match led by a goal scored by T.Harwood Bellis in the 19th minute assisted by M.Fernades to take the forefront of the early minutes of the game.

The match lead was doubled to 2-0 in the 35th minute by A.Armstrong who scored a penalty kick from a foul advantage,

But Stoke City didn’t give up so soon as they were able to get into the game with the goal scored by A.Philips in the 45th minute to take the game to 2-1.

Came back stronger in the second half of the match, Stoke City was able to balance the match with an equalizer goal from T.Cannon in the 54th minute putting the match points to 2-2.

The minutes between the 54th minute to the 88th minute, where the last winning goal for Southampton was scored by Jame Bree, was a fight of tooth & nail between the team with a couple of fouls committed resulting in two yellow cards for Southampton(A.Armstrong 67′ & M.Cornet 90+2″) and one yellow card(J.Tchamadeu 66′).

In the end, Southampton survived the match and earned a place in the quarter-final stage of the EFL Cup.
