In a surprising turn, former presidential aide Reno Omokri has celebrated Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on his 64th birthday, calling him a “worthy son of Nigeria.”
Omokri, known for his persistent and often scathing criticisms of Obi in recent months, took to his official Facebook page on Saturday to extend warm wishes, with a picture of him and Obi when he was still governor, leaving many stunned.
“Here’s wishing Peter Obi a happy 64th birthday. May God bless you and make you a better person. My family and I pray for your health and continued wealth, even as we wish for you to grow in stealth,” Omokri wrote.

He continued, “May biblical goodness and mercy be your life story henceforth, and may God reward you for your recent works of charity. Happy birthday, Peter Gregory Obi, a worthy son of Nigeria. B. Reno Omokri.”
The unexpected praise came despite Omokri’s history of sharp rebukes toward Obi, especially in the aftermath of the 2023 general elections, where Omokri accused the former Anambra governor of undermining the chances of the PDP and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
However, Saturday’s message sounded more conciliatory, even acknowledging Obi’s recent philanthropic gesture at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
Peter Obi, born on July 19, 1961, served as governor of Anambra State and emerged as a strong third-force contender in Nigeria’s 2023 presidential election. His birthday has attracted widespread goodwill from supporters and political observers alike.
