Yusuf Buhari, son of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, has publicly expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other national leaders for their support and honour following his father’s passing.

Speaking for the first time at a special Federal Executive Council (FEC) session held in Abuja on Thursday, Yusuf praised Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and their wives for the respect and empathy shown to the Buhari family during their time of grief.

The meeting was convened in honour of the late president, who died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness.

“On behalf of the Buhari family, I sincerely thank Mr. President, the First Lady, the Vice President, and his wife for the immense support given to us,” Yusuf said. “It has shown that he was seen not only as a politician but also as a father and a friend.”

He also acknowledged the leadership of the National Assembly, service chiefs, the diplomatic community, religious groups, the media, and Nigerians at home and abroad for their prayers, visits, and condolence messages. Special thanks were given to the military for the befitting burial ceremony conducted in Daura, Katsina State.

President Tinubu, who presided over the FEC session, described the late Buhari as a symbol of integrity and humility. The session marked the first of its kind under Tinubu’s administration and was attended by top political leaders, cabinet members, and the Buhari family.

Yusuf has been the talk of the day since the death and burial of his father. His personality has attracted praise from Nigerians, with many lauding him for his calm and reserved attitude, describing him as “well-raised” and “respectful,” and not jumping about his father when he was president. Many have compared him to Seyi Tinubu, who is seen as rather arrogant while running about with his president father.
